ACLU Abandons Lawsuit Against Pro-Life Texas Towns

The ACLU and its Texas chapter have withdrawn their lawsuit against seven Texas towns that had declared themselves sanctuaries for the unborn and adopted ordinances outlawing abortion within their city limits. In February, the ACLU filed suit in East Texas against the cities of Waskom, Naples, Joaquin, Tenaha, Rusk, Gary, and Wells on behalf of two pro-abortion plaintiffs: the Texas Equal Access Fund and the Lilith Fund for Reproductive Equity. Now, three months later, the groups are dropping their suit, and pro-life groups across Texas are claiming it as a victory for the unborn. Read more......

Abortion in Arkansas Hits 43-Year Low

The Arkansas Department of Health released its annual reports on the number of abortions performed in the state. The reports show that 2,963 abortions occurred in Arkansas in 2019. Family Council President Jerry Cox released a statement saying, "Arkansas' abortion numbers haven't been this low since 1977. The fact that Arkansas' abortion numbers continue to fall year after year is really good news." Read more......

Abortion on November Ballot in Colorado

Initiative #120, sponsored by Due Date Too Late, was designed to prohibit abortions after a fetus reaches 22 weeks gestational age as calculated from the first day of the woman's last menstrual period (LMP). Under the initiative, performing a prohibited abortion would be a misdemeanor punishable by a fine except for in cases where an abortion is required immediately to save the life of the pregnant woman. Medical professionals who are found to have performed a prohibited abortion would have their medical licenses suspended by the Colorado Medical Board for at least three years. A woman who has a prohibited abortion could not be charged with a crime under the initiative. Read more......

Illinois Lawsuit Challenges Reproductive Health Act

The Illinois Baptist State Association and two businesses have filed suit challenging a state law approved last year requiring health insurance policies sold in Illinois to provide coverage for abortions. The lawsuit said the mandate violates rights under the Illinois Religious Freedom Restoration Act and the Illinois Health Care Right of Conscience Act because the plaintiffs have "sincerely held religious beliefs which forbid them from funding and providing employee health care coverage for abortion." Tennessee Passes Heartbeat Bill

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee announced that he will sign a bill banning abortions at the detection of a heartbeat, which is around six weeks into the pregnancy. The state's Legislature passed the abortion bill backed by the Republican governor and opposed by Democrats as budget negotiations stalled. "One of the most important things we can do to be pro-family is to protect the rights of the most vulnerable in our state, and there is none more vulnerable than the unborn," Lee tweeted Friday morning.
