After repeated calls from advocates over several years, Louisville Metro Council is poised to debate legislation allowing health care facilities to create "buffer zones" outside their entrances to preserve access to services — and provide protection from COVID-19. EMW Women's Surgical Center regularly draws anti-abortion protesters who congregate on the sidewalks near the facility's entrance, and a Louisville Safety Zone campaign has pleaded with local officials in recent years to create a permanent buffer zone. U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Lila Rose, president and founder of Live Action, urge FDA commissioner Stephen Hahn to protect the health of women and children by pulling Mifeprex, a dangerous abortion drug, off the market. On July 13, 2020, Obama-appointed U.S District Judge Theodore Chuang, blocked the FDA from enforcing the REMS for Mifeprex, suspending the requirement that abortion pill prescribers dispense the pill at an in-person appointment. Former vice president Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic Party nominee for president, has selected Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) to be his running mate. Harris is the first Black woman, and the first person of Indian descent, to be selected as a running mate for a major party's ticket. Harris' mother was born in India, and her father was born in Jamaica. Harris is a staunch supporter of legal protection for abortion and has pushed Biden on that issue in recent months. Catholics and pro-life organizations offered a range of reactions to the selection of Sen. Kamala Harris as former vice president Joe Biden’s running mate for the 2020 election. LB 814 bans what is known as dismemberment abortions, or D and E, a method used in the second trimester. Opponents argue the bill will limit doctors when it comes to options for women. While some other state's bans have been ruled unconstitutional, state senator Mike Hilgers says this bill is different. Especially in that last year in Nebraska the procedure was used just 3-percent of the time -- meaning this wouldn't outlaw abortion altogether, something, he said hurt the other state bans because the specific procedure was in greater use there. Family Research Council has released the fourth in a series of interactive pro-life maps, tracking state funding of the abortion industry through three principal funding streams: Medicaid, Title X family planning funds, and state appropriations. The Louisville Metro Council rejected an ordinance that would have allowed health care facilities, including abortion clinics, to create a "buffer zone" outside the entrances to their facilities. The legislation, proposed this year after years of advocacy work by activists including the Kentucky Health Justice Network, failed in a 12-13 vote after lengthy discussion that at times verged into the ethics of abortion. A force in Nebraska's anti-abortion movement, Nebraska Right to Life Executive Director Julie Schmit-Albin, died following a prolonged illness, one day short of her 64th birthday. Schmit-Albin "committed her entire career to advancing the pro-life movement, saving preborn lives, and empowering women," the organization said. She worked on and helped to pass numerous anti-abortion laws in Nebraska over three decades. Read more......

Abby Johnson, a prominent anti-abortion activist, used her address at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday to advocate for the movement, saying: "Planned Parenthood abortion facilities are strategically located in minority neighborhoods." Three citizens joined pro-life group Texas Values in filing a lawsuit against the City of Austin for passing a budget that provides $250,000 to provide travel and other aid to women seeking abortions. Texas Values President Jonathan Saenz framed the issue as a case of money misuse. "Local governments that use tax dollars to aid and abet abortions are committing a criminal act," Saenz claimed. For more than 40 years, Democrats and Republicans have stuck to a compromise on abortion: No government money would be used to pay for ending pregnancies. Now, top House Democrats say they plan to challenge that status quo. Beginning next year, Democratic leaders in the House no longer will back the annual move to put the prohibition into law, they've told a small group of House Democrats. If successful, ending the ban, known as the Hyde amendment, would mark one of the most significant changes in abortion policy in decades. Read more......
