This week hundreds of pro-life Coloradans showed up to testify in opposition to the most radical abortion bill in the nation. The State House committee heard testimony from Colorado citizens for more than 14 hours. Pro-life testimony took well over nine hours of that time. The Texas Supreme Court dealt a final blow to abortion providers’ federal challenge to the state’s latest abortion restrictions. The court ruled that state medical licensing officials do not have authority to enforce the law, which bans abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy. This was the last, narrowly cracked window that abortion providers had left to challenge the law after the U.S. Supreme Court decimated their case in a December ruling. First-of-its-kind Missouri legislation shows that anti-abortion lawmakers in Republican-led states aren't likely to stop at banning most abortions within their borders but also could try to make it harder to go out of state to end pregnancies. A proposal that could be debated in the Legislature as soon as next week seeks to make it illegal to "aid or abet" abortions outlawed in Missouri, even if they are performed in other states. A Washington state measure that prohibits legal action against people seeking an abortion and those who aid them was signed into law Thursday by the governor, in a move designed to rebut recent actions by conservative states. "We know this bill is necessary because this is a perilous time for the ability of people to have the freedom of choice that they have enjoyed for decades," said Gov. Jay Inslee, a Democrat. U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and 32 Republican Senators introduced a joint resolution under the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to overturn the Biden Administration's 2021 Final Rule on the Title X Family Planning Program, which reversed the Trump Administration's 2019 ban on federal funding to entities that provide abortion referrals to pregnant mothers. Idaho became the first state to enact a law modeled after a Texas statute banning abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy and allowing it to be enforced through lawsuits to avoid constitutional court challenges. Republican Gov. Brad Little signed into law the measure that allows people who would have been family members to sue a doctor who performs an abortion after cardiac activity is detected in an embryo. A group of pro-life organizations announced they've discovered aborted human fetuses being kept in labeled paper bags and boxes in a walk-in freezer at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Earlier this month, members of the Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU), Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust, Pro-Life San Francisco, and Rehumanize International found the freezer using invoices that had been made public by public records requests by Indiana Right to Life. Planned Parenthood filed a lawsuit that seeks to reverse Idaho's new abortion law. The law bans abortions once cardiac activity in a fetus is detected, which happens at approximately six weeks of pregnancy. Many women are unaware at six weeks that they are pregnant. The suit was filed in Idaho's Supreme Court on behalf of Planned Parenthood Great Northwest, Hawai'i, Alaska, Indiana, Kentucky and Dr. Caitlin Gustafson, a health care provider who performs abortions at Planned Parenthood clinics, according to court documents.
