The Supreme Court is poised to strike down Roe v. Wade, according to an unprecedented leak of a draft opinion written by Justice Samuel Alito. The draft leak obtained by Politico was written in early February. It was not immediately clear if it has been rewritten or revised. The Court has declined to verify or disavow the document. The argument that pro-life laws "force women to give birth" betrays the mistaken premise undergirding the pro-abortion case: They believe sex without any consequences is a fundamental right, bolstered ultimately by an adjacent right to kill any child who may come into being solely as the result of freely chosen sexual activity. Children, in other words, must face lethal consequences in order to enable adults to have sex without taking responsibility. In a very literal sense, unless a pregnant woman miscarries or has an abortion, pregnancy will naturally end in giving birth. New York City Mayor Eric Adams slammed the pro-life movement as "radical" on Saturday and pledged that he would "fight" to ensure there are "no" limitations on abortion. "Abortion is health care. The way Florida Southern Baptist pastor Tom Ascol sees it, there is little difference between a woman who chooses to end her pregnancy and a hit man. Both pay someone to end a human life, his argument goes, and so both should face criminal charges. The Oklahoma Legislature passed a bill that bans almost all abortions from the moment of fertilization and allows individuals to sue providers and anyone who "aids or abets" an abortion. If signed by Gov. Kevin Stitt (R), who has promised to approve any anti-abortion law that comes to his desk, this would be the strictest abortion law in the United States. The bill passed the Oklahoma House 73-16, with state Rep. Jim Olsen (R) declaring that "there can be nothing higher or more critical than the defense of innocent, unborn life." Advocates of legal abortion in Michigan have proposed a constitutional amendment that pro-life critics say is so poorly written it would do more than just remove legal protections for unborn children.
