A Gallup poll conducted mostly after the draft of a Supreme Court decision addressing abortion rights was leaked finds a marked shift in public attitudes over the past year. After a decade in which Americans' identification as "pro-choice" varied narrowly between 45 percent and 50 percent, the percentage has jumped six points to 55 percent in the latest poll, compared with the prior measure a year ago. Pro-choice sentiment is now the highest Gallup has measured since 1995 when it was 56 percent -- the only other time it has been at the current level or higher -- while the 39 percent identifying as "pro-life" is the lowest since 1996. Pro-abortion terrorists firebombed a pro-life Christian pregnancy center in Buffalo, N.Y., inflicting significant damage on the building and vandalizing the remains with their organization's name. Pro-abortion group Jane's Revenge, which has developed a reputation for resorting to violence, claimed responsibility for the attack, which left glass shattered and much of the interior of the CompassCare office burned and destroyed. The arsonists left graffiti on a wall that read, "Jane Was Here." The organization has committed multiple such incidents in the last few months, including one in which it firebombed the headquarters of Wisconsin Family Action (WFA), a pro-life group in...

Pro-life centers in nearly half of U.S. states have been attacked following a premature leak of the U.S. Supreme Court's Dobbs v. Jackson, but the FBI's plans to address threats of past or future violence, especially if the high court overturns Roe v. Wade, are not clear. This is where the FBI often comes in when the victims are favorable to the political left, but so far, the same agency that flocked to Talladega Superspeedway over hate crime allegations that a garage pull cord was a noose designed to target NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace and spied on a presidential candidate because Hillary Clinton said he colluded with Russians doesn't seem to have the same urgency about life-forward centers...

Careful readers of the obituaries may have noticed the death this past Monday of Jim Seals, co-leader of the popular 1970s soft-rock band Seals and Crofts. He was 79 and lived in Nashville. Once upon a time, Seals and Crofts became a household name in music with a string of popular hits – "Summer Breeze," "Diamond Girl," and "Get Closer." But Mr. Seals' obit took special note of a controversial chapter either long forgotten or deliberately ignored. Back in 1974, right in the middle of the band's rapid rise, Jim Seals and his musical partner, Dash Crofts, released a controversial album that its label, Warner Brothers, urged them not to. Moved and saddened by the...

Anarchist groups and individuals using the moniker "Jane's Revenge" are among those who claim to be planning a "Night of Rage" to respond to the Supreme Court's expected overturning of Roe v. Wade. Their grandiose rhetoric portrays churches, crisis pregnancy centers, and pro-life groups as their enemy, and these actors seem to be behind at least six vandalism or arson attacks on pro-life groups, crisis pregnancy centers, and churches. The first communique from a group calling itself Jane's Revenge was posted May 8 to the anonymous blogging host noblogs.org, the same day as a vandal and arson attack on Wisconsin Family Action that appeared to be anarchists motivated by...

New York bolstered legal protections Monday for those seeking and those providing abortions in the state in a bid to become a national "safe harbor" ahead of a Supreme Court decision that could see the federal right to abortion overturned. Gov. Kathy Hochul vowed to protect abortion access for all after signing a six-bill package including measures aimed at protecting abortion seekers and providers from out-of-state legal actions. "Reproductive rights are human rights, and today we are signing landmark legislation to further protect them and all who wish to access them in New York State," Hochul, a Democrat, said. Pro-abortion terrorist group Jane's Revenge, which has claimed credit for a string of recent attacks on pregnancy centers across the country, declared "open season" on pro-life organizations as the Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health draws closer. In a statement posted by a radical leftist news website, the organization vowed to attack any pro-life group that "doesn't close their doors." Those pro-life organizations that do shut down will be spared, the group said, "but until you do, it's open season, and we know where your operations are." Jane's Revenge took responsibility for the last week's attack on a CompassCare pro-life Christian...

A coalition of pro-life organizations sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland demanding action to address the recent wave of pro-abortion terrorism and intimidation. In a letter organized by the non-profit CatholicVote, 25 pro-life leaders, mostly think tank presidents, called the Justice Department's attention to the many attacks on pregnancy centers, churches, and even Supreme Court justices that have occurred since the Dobbs majority opinion leak last month. "The relative silence from the Administration endangers Americans even more," the letter read. "One extremist group is advocating for violence in response to the final Supreme Court decision on Dobbs,"...

A Jewish synagogue in South Florida has sued the state over its recently enacted pro-life law, claiming that it violates its religious freedom. Plaintiff Congregation L'Dor Va-Dor of Boynton Beach argues that the legislation, which outlaws abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy, conflicts with a tenet of the Jewish faith that permits abortion "if necessary to protect the health, mental or physical well-being of the woman." The synagogue claims that the law would punish its congregants that receive an abortion. Calling it "unconstitutionally vague," the lawsuit alleges that the law "prohibits Jewish women from practicing their faith free of government intrusion and this...

Anticipating the overturn of Roe v. Wade, diocesan, parish pro-life groups mobilize Catholics to further help women and families, including through the program Walking With Moms in Need. When members of a pro-life team at the Rochester Area Catholic Family of Parishes in Michigan received a request for childcare this past week for a mom with young twins, rather than giving her a list of referrals, they started considering how they could get training to do the childcare themselves. "These are the ways that we're trying what we call redoubling our efforts," said Dr. Catherine Stark, a member of the Walking With Moms in Need (WWMIN) team at the group of parishes that includes St....

As much of the country awaits a US Supreme Court decision that could overturn Roe v. Wade, national democrats are calling for a focus on abortion rights during midterm election campaigns. But some in the party call that the wrong move. Currently there are just two democrats in Congress who oppose abortion. Some say that's because pro-life democrats are being forced out of the party due to abortion rights being seen as a litmus test to run for office. "Pro-life democrats are really struggling with where the party has gone, so extreme and that's really alienating," Kristen Day, Executive Director of Democrats for Life said. Day believes that extremism such as legislation supporting...

The Texas Supreme Court has decided to take up a pair of defamation cases against a pro-life activist over the legality of calling abortion "murder." In 2020, three abortion funds — the Lilith Fund, Texas Equal Access Fund, and the Afiya Center — sued Mark Lee Dickson, founder of the "Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn" initiative, after he encouraged cities to pass an ordinance that declared the abortion funds "criminal organizations." Their lawsuits also accuse Dickson of defaming them in social media posts that call abortion murder. The Lilith Fund sued him in Travis County and the latter two groups sued him in Dallas County, but since both cases concern the...

The Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, effectively ending recognition of a constitutional right to abortion and giving individual states the power to allow, limit, or ban the practice altogether. The ruling came in the court's opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which centered on a Mississippi law that banned abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy. The Republican-led state of Mississippi asked the Supreme Court to strike down a lower court ruling that stopped the 15-week abortion ban from taking place. "We end this opinion where we began. Abortion presents a profound moral question. The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or...

Maybe it’s time everyone slowed down and looked at Roe for what it was. It was legal malpractice of the highest order that disenfranchised hundreds of millions of Americans by rationalizing that the Constitution had settled the question of abortion. An issue that rightly belonged in state legislatures where citizens could argue for and against was commandeered by the Blackmun court and settled. This is not merely a conservative view. Since Roe became law in 1973, a powerful consensus has been building among legal authorities left and right that Roe was constructed not on the breakwater of constitutional logic but on the seafoam of judicial activism. If we in red state America fail to treat women and children with the compassion and care we have always promised as we advocated for an end to abortion, that failure will be highlighted and leveraged by abortion proponents to influence purple states. If the pro-life community shows a lack of empathy and care for women in crisis--or worse yet, tries to prosecute and jail them--it will be the equivalent of writing a check for millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood and the abortion lobby. The left will take our failure to live up to our own rhetoric about caring for women, use it to scare moderates in purple states, and beat us all over the legislative court. Those losses in the third...

The people in this movement have fought for decades to reach this moment. They just have to decide what to do now. Nathan Berning is one of many abortion opponents who wants, more than anything, to see a substantial expansion of the social safety net. I talked with a dozen others like him—people who said that advocating for things like universal child care and a higher minimum wage should be the logical next step for the movement. But theirs are minority voices in the broader anti-abortion tent. For decades, most abortion opponents have hitched their wagon to a party that has fought tirelessly against state expansion. That alliance is going to constrain any progress toward improving outcomes...

The pro-life community and legislators will need to expand services to mothers and families as Texas did. Programs like SFLA's Standing with You will be even more vital for women seeking information about federal, state and local programs already in place. Still, this transition to a more life-affirming culture will require struggle and commitment. Today's generation has been made to feel that those who are not perfect enough are disposable, and that people are the problem, instead of the solution with incredible potential. Women are told they can't handle career and family, school and family, and urged to end the lives they carry, which certainly frees up policy makers from the hard work of...

A hacking group is targeting pro-life supporters and states with anti-abortion laws in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the landmark ruling that recognized the constitutional right to abortion. SiegedSec claimed it victimized Arkansas and Kentucky and took government employees’ personally identifiable information. Abortion laws and restrictions vary by state and, now the federal protection has been overturned, abortion will not be accessible everywhere in the U.S. Some states have trigger laws in place that immediately ban abortion once Roe was overturned. Others guarantee the right to an abortion via laws or constitutional amendments. Here is where abortion laws stand in each state, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a research group that focuses on sexual and reproductive health, and further reporting. Read more......

Children will now have protection in some states, but in the bigger picture, we are just getting started. To send abortion to the states is not full justice. No state, whether pro-life or pro-abortion, should get to decide whether children live or die. The right to life—the most basic human right—is universal and absolute. Children in the womb are human beings. The science is conclusive. Human life doesn't begin at birth. It begins before birth at the moment of fertilization. No one has the right to decide whether an innocent person gets to live or die. Read more......
