More than 10,000 unborn babies are alive today because of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Society of Family Planning’s #WeCount initiative reported that there were 5,270 fewer abortions in July and 5,400 fewer in August after the court’s June 24 ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe and freed individual states to decide abortion policy. The American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) held its Midwifery Works Conference last month, but the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG) had no presence there for the first time in 6 years. AAPLOG, a non-sectarian organization, operated as a "special interest group" within the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) for 40 years before ACOG discontinued the designation. The abortion misinformation that has been rampant since the Dobbs ruling overturned Roe v. Wade is having a tangible negative impact on human beings. Since Dobbs, abortion proponents have floated false narratives such as that women will die from ectopic pregnancy if abortion is restricted, when abortion has never been the treatment for ectopic pregnancy, that women will be denied care for miscarriage or other conditions, and that they will be prosecuted for seeking abortion. The fact is, none of the new laws the states that have written regulating abortion affect the health or life of women, nor criminalize it for the mother. Read more......

A new study has shown that the number of abortions in Colorado has spiked, in part because more women come from out of state seeking to procure abortions. While Catholic ministries and charities continue to help pregnant women in Colorado, the state Legislature could be poised to introduce legislation that would further increase the number of abortions. Between April and August the number of abortions increased by 33% in Colorado, from 1,450 in April to 1,940 in August, the Society of Family Planning said in its Oct. 28 publication called the "#WeCount Report." A pro-life ballot measure failed and several pro-abortion amendments succeeded during Tuesday's midterms, representing a significant spate of losses for the pro-life movement in the first general election since the repeal of Roe vs. Wade. Kentucky's Amendment 2, which would have amended the commonwealth's constitution to state explicitly that there is no "right" to abortions, was rejected by voters. People like the idea of fewer abortions — as any normal person should — but aren’t convicted enough to do anything about it. It seems most voters see the right to life as an ideal that would require a great deal of moral effort to turn into reality, and many of them find themselves exhausted by the debate before it even begins. The challenge for the pro-life movement will be to find a way around this apathy, to inspire voters to take abortion seriously. The blame game has begun around what led to Republicans' disappointing results in the midterms, with some outside groups zeroing in on the party's lack of an abortion message. Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, a large anti-abortion organization with close ties to GOP leaders, slammed Republican candidates who distanced themselves from abortion bans and failed to clearly communicate their stance on the issue, calling it "political malpractice." As pro-abortion measures won on state ballots and pro-life measures faced defeat, Catholic bishops responded to election results with profound disappointment. They professed resolve to continue to work to defend unborn human life and support pregnant women in need. Some called for prayer and fasting and emphasized that millions of lives are at stake. On Election Day about 56.7% of Michigan voters, more than 2.4 million, voted for Proposal 3 to add a broad right to abortion into the state constitution. They call themselves "pro-choice," and they have succeeded in getting almost everyone else to refer to them as "pro-choice." They even refer to those who are anti-abortion as "anti-choice." But they aren't talking about "choice" as if they are supporting the right to choose between chocolate and vanilla. The only choice they support is abortion. They aren't protesting that the Supreme Court's recent decision in Dobbs took away a woman's right to choose to ultimately give birth to a baby. Approximately 70% of abortion-related threats of violence in the US since the Dobbs decision have been against pro-life groups, according to the head of the FBI. FBI Director Christopher Wray gave the statistic while speaking at a hearing before the Senate Homeland Security Committee. Sen. Rick Scott of Florida questioned Wray during the hearing about recurring accusations that the FBI is not committing resources to combat an escalation in crimes committed against pregnancy centers, churches and other pro-life institutions. According to a study from the pro-abortion WeCount coalition, the answer is "yes," with the number of abortions nationwide falling by 10,000 in the first two months after the Dobbs decision. Ten thousand lives saved is cause for celebration, although you might not guess that from the media's reaction. But the effect of Dobbs won't stop there. As is often the case, the answer goes beyond the headlines. While the WeCount data can't be independently verified, it's surprising to see the abortion industry finally acknowledge, however grudgingly, that pro-life state laws save lives. A group called MOMS — Mothers Offering Maternal Support — is asking the court for permission to intervene in the case, after a Ramsey County judge struck down Minnesota's parental notification and other anti-abortion laws and Attorney General Keith Ellison decided *not* to appeal. The pro-life group's attorney, Teresa Collett says there's clear legal precedent that parents have a constitutional right to direct their minor children's health care, and "As the court opinion itself indicates, the attorney general provided inadequate representation of parents' rights." Some recent wicked absurdity in South Carolina demonstrated through denial of the existence of the fetal heartbeat - the latest in political posturing attempting to deny the humanity of the unborn – had a house of truth dropped on it by a pro-life medical professional. Former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams infamously made the claim of non-existence of the fetal heartbeat, and South Carolina Chief Justice Donald Beatty deemed it to be truth as well. That flickering image on an ultrasound scan that is visible from the center of a six-week-old fetus is not a heartbeat, they said with certainty in their tone. It's simply an "electrical signal."
