Statistics reveal that abortion was the leading cause of death worldwide for the fourth year in a row, as the number of abortions nearly quadrupled the number of deaths from infectious diseases in 2022. Worldometer, a database that keeps track of statistics about health, the global population and other metrics in real-time, continuously compiles information about the number of abortions worldwide. The last available snapshot of the Worldometer from 2022, captured on Dec. 31 by the internet archiving tool The Wayback Machine, shows that more than 44 million abortions took place last year. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will allow retail pharmacies to offer abortion pills in the United States for the first time, prompting criticism from Catholic and pro-life groups. The Biden administration's rule change comes in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision last year in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization that struck down the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, enabling many states to restrict abortion access. The regulatory change permits the sale of mifepristone, the first of two drugs used in a chemical abortion, at retail pharmacies. The drug could previously only be dispensed by some mail-order pharmacies, or by some doctors or abortion centers. Read more......

Even before the Supreme Court killed the 1973 Roe v. Wade pro-abortion decision last June, this year’s National March for Life was going to be monumental. With it being the 50th year of the decision granting a right to abortion, activists on both sides were poised to make a mark on Jan. 20. But following the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization decision written by Associate Justice Samuel Alito, the focus of the anti-abortion movement has shifted from the Supreme Court to the House and Senate, in which lawmakers are stirring with competing pro- and anti- legislation. And in a symbolic bow to that shift, the March for Life itself is planning to detour to the U.S. Capitol, March for...

A pro-life pregnancy center network is taking matters into its own hands and hiring private investigators to find pro-abortion terrorists who attacked its medical office, claiming that the FBI is "slow-walking" its probe, which has not resulted in any arrests. CompassCare is partnering with the Thomas More Society, a nonprofit law firm fighting for religious liberty, to hire private investigators to find the perpetrators on its own terms and timeline. "After talking with our investigators so far, they've already provided very valuable insight that we didn't know. And they do have a track record of identifying terrorists both internationally and domestically," Compass Care...

As several states have moved to ban or restrict abortion following the U.S. Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade last summer, some lawsuits contend those laws promote a sectarian view of where life begins. Monica Snyder, who serves as executive director of Secular Pro-Life, an organization comprised of atheists and agnostics, told The Christian Post this week that the belief that a zygote is the first stage of life for human organisms "is not a religious belief. It's a biological fact," she said. "You don't need to be religious to recognize biological facts, and you don't need to be religious to believe all humans are morally valuable." Read more......

House Republicans used their new majority to push through a largely symbolic bill that would require health care providers to provide care to infants born after an attempted abortion. The main difference between the 2002 law and the most current one — the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act — is that the latter establishes penalties for health providers who do not act to "preserve the life and health of the child." Abortions in Texas dramatically decreased in the months following the overturning of Roe v. Wade last June, according to recent state data. Only three abortions took place in Texas in August 2022, all of which were "medically necessary," according to statistics from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Compared with the 2,596 abortions recorded in the state in June 2022, the number in August represents a decrease of nearly 99%. Sixty-eight abortions were performed in July. Read more......

The Knights of Columbus released the results of their annual Marist poll on sanctity-of-life issues. They surveyed 1025 adults between January 6 and January 9 of this year. Unlike many other abortion surveys, they ask questions about a wide range of abortion policies. These Knights of Columbus polls usually find very strong public support for incremental pro-life laws. This year's poll is no exception. It found very strong opposition to both abortion on demand and taxpayer funding for abortion. Read more......

Before Dobbs, anti-abortion advocates seemed confident that once a handful of states banned abortion, many more would follow—that they could build a “culture of life” in America that would put the country on a righteous path. In some ways, the opposite has occurred. As a few states put limits on abortion rights, others, such as Vermont, California, and Michigan, have reacted by enshrining those rights into state law. Meanwhile, voters in red states including Kansas, Montana, and Kentucky rejected attempts to restrict abortion. Read more......

The Federal Bureau of Investigation announced that it is offering $25,000 rewards for information in a series of attacks "against reproductive health service facilities." "The FBI is seeking the public's help to identify the individual(s) responsible for a series of attacks and threats targeting reproductive health service facilities across the country," the FBI stated. "As part of a national awareness effort, the FBI is offering rewards of up to $25,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the suspect(s) responsible for these crimes." Critics argue that the language in the release is misleading. All but one of the ten crimes...

Citing the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health overturning Roe v. Wade, in September, the VA announced that it would begin offering abortion services at VA facilities nationwide. The VA brazenly issued this edict without first engaging the legislative branch, as it is required to do. Ignoring 30 years of congressional authority expressly prohibiting abortions at VA facilities, the VA was to immediately begin offering abortion services regardless of the unborn child’s gestational age and in spite of any state laws which might prohibit such a procedure. A jury has reportedly acquitted Pennsylvania pro-life activist who was accused of allegedly pushing a Planned Parenthood escort during a clash outside an abortion clinic, Life News reported. Mark Houck, 48, faced charges that he violated the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, which makes it a federal crime to use force with the intent to injure, intimidate and interfere with anyone because that person produces reproductive health care. He pleaded not guilty. The charge stems from an Oct. 13, 2021 incident in which the Biden Administration alleged Houck assaulted and "forcefully shoved" Bruce Love, a 72-year-old volunteer at a Philadelphia Planned Parenthood.
