Six initiative petitions filed last week seeking to add rape and incest exceptions to Missouri's abortion ban are facing pushback from both sides of the issue, pilloried as either an anti-abortion wolf in sheep's clothing or a clandestine push to allow abortion on demand. The Reproductive Health Equity Act, passed in 2017, requires every private insurer in the state to cover reproductive health services, including contraceptives, at no cost to patients. All but one insurer, Providence Health Plan, must also cover abortion services. The law allows insurers to offer plans that don't include abortion or contraceptive coverage to religious employers, such as churches, that exist to instill religious values and primarily employ and serve people who share the employer's religious beliefs. The future of the most popular method of terminating a pregnancy is back before the Supreme Court after the Biden administration and pharmaceutical company Danco appealed a lower court ruling rolling back years of FDA policies broadening access to the drug. The Supreme Court is unlikely to consider the case until next year at the earliest, and the justices previously ruled that no changes to federal regulation of the pills will happen until then — leaving the current state-by-state patchwork of access in place for now. This trial was a sham and made a mockery of our justice system. These activists are heroes who used nonviolent direct action to strive for justice, and the Biden Department of Justice (DOJ) has acted capriciously and illegitimately. Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy and 25 House Republicans introduced a resolution to repeal the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, a law that has been used extensively by the Biden administration to penalize pro-life activists. Passed in 1994, the FACE Act imposes criminal penalties on individuals convicted of "violent, threatening, damaging, and obstructive conduct" that interferes with access to abortion facilities, places of worship, and pregnancy centers. California's pro-abortion attorney general, Rob Bonta, sued five pro-life pregnancy centers over their promotion of a drug that is meant to reverse chemical abortions. The state's lawsuit claims that there is no scientific evidence supporting the safety or efficacy of the abortion pill reversal drug despite the pregnancy centers describing them as an effective and safe way to reverse chemical abortions. "All major studies show that using progesterone to counteract a chemical abortion (Abortion Pill Reversal) can be effective since it's the very same hormone a woman's body produces to sustain her pregnancy," Heartbeat International said.
