3 States Reject, 7 States Expand Abortion

Voters in Florida, Nebraska, and South Dakota voted down major pro-abortion proposals in their states, while seven other states saw voters approve measures to expand abortion, in several cases codifying abortion access into the state constitution. After back-to-back pro-life losses in half a dozen states since 2022, the rejection of the pro-abortion measures in three states represent the first victories at the ballot box for pro-life advocates since the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Meanwhile, several states that already do little to restrict abortion committed to make the procedure even more accessible. Read more......

Election a Clear Rejection of Extreme Abortion Agenda

Leaders of pro-life advocacy groups are celebrating former President Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 presidential election, citing his win as evidence that the American people do not support the unfettered abortion access endorsed by the Democrats. Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser reacted to the results of the election, which she noted was the first presidential contest to take place after the U.S. Supreme Court's Dobbs v. Jackson decision determining that the U.S. Constitution does not contain a right to abortion. Read more......

Supreme Court Asked to Throw Out 'Buffer Zone' Laws

A St. Louis pro-life group has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to declare unconstitutional a rural Illinois town’s now-defunct “buffer zone” law, which previously impeded the group’s peaceful protests and counseling outside the town’s abortion clinics. The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to decide whether or not it will take up the case on Nov. 22. The case, Coalition Life v. City of Carbondale, Illinois, concerns a law restricting protests outside three abortion clinics in Carbondale, a small college town about two hours southeast of St. Louis and three hours north of Memphis, Tennessee, both major cities in states that currently have strong pro-life protections in place. Wyoming Governor Pledges to Appeal Judgette's Ruling

Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon plans to appeal to the state Supreme Court after a county judge blocked two pro-life laws in Wyoming. The judge blocked the Life Is a Human Right Act, which protected unborn children except in cases when the mother's life was at risk or in cases of rape or incest, as well as a law prohibiting chemical abortions via abortion pills, a law signed by Gordon in March 2023. Teton County District Judge Melissa Owens ruled on Monday that the two laws violated the state constitution by restricting medical decisions. Owen has blocked Wyoming abortion laws three times since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. Read more......

Abortions Dropped by Nearly 40% in Iowa After Six-Week Ban

Abortions dropped sharply in Iowa immediately after a strict abortion ban went into effect there, according to data from a major pro-abortion group. Data from the Guttmacher Institute, released on Thursday, show an average of 400 clinician-provided abortions per month in Iowa over the first six months of 2024. After the state’s six-week ban went into effect on July 29, “the number of abortions dropped to an estimated 250 in August, a decrease of 38% from the average over the first six months of the year,” Guttmacher said. Late-Term Abortions Rise in Some Blue States

Women’s rights advocates have dismissed concerns about late-term abortion as a right-wing talking point, but pro-lifers are flagging data showing the spurious phenomenon is surging in blue states. Figures released by the Oregon Health Authority show that the number of abortions performed after 23 weeks gestation, or after fetal viability, soared from 85 in 2022 to 225 in 2023, a one-year jump of 165 percent. Overall abortions during that period rose in 2023 to 10,075, an increase of 16.2 percent and the highest state total since 2009. Read more......
