Massachusetts Lawmakers Rush to Pass Bill to Allow Abortion Up to Birth

The Massachusetts Senate passed a measure that, if signed by Democratic Gov. Maura Healey, will allow abortions up until birth for any reason. The Senate fast-tracked the bill to avoid the full committee process so the full body could vote on it before the formal session ended. Current state law allows abortion for the first 24 weeks of pregnancy. After that, abortion is allowed only if a physician believes it is necessary to save the mother’s life or her physical or mental health, or if the baby has a lethal fetal anomaly or would not be able to survive outside the womb. Massachusetts Becomes 10th State to Allow Abortion Up to Birth

Massachusetts joined nine other states and Washington, D.C., by removing all gestational age limits for abortion. Gov. Maura Healey (D-MA) on Monday signed a bill passed by the state legislature at the end of July that allows for elective abortion through all weeks of pregnancy based upon the professional judgment of a medical doctor performing the abortion. Pro-Life Publisher Facing Demands to Retract Calling Abortion 'Killing' Fires Back

A prominent pro-life organization is refusing demands to remove years of abortion-related reporting and to issue sweeping retractions after attorneys representing 13 abortion-rights advocates accused it of publishing false and defamatory claims about their pregnancies. "The answer is 'No,'" attorneys for Live Action wrote in a fiery response. The Thomas More Society, representing Live Action, argues that much of the disputed coverage is constitutionally protected speech, including the organization's use of terms such as "killing" to describe abortion, and signals that it is prepared to defend Live Action in court if the dispute escalates. A national pro-life organization has endorsed Rep. Ralph Norman in South Carolina's closely watched Senate primary to replace the late Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, whose sister, interim Sen. Darline Graham Nordone (R-SC), is also vying for the seat. Students for Life Action, a pro-life group with chapters across the United States, extended an endorsement to Norman on Monday as the five-term representative heads to a special primary runoff against Graham Nordone. Judge Strikes Down Portion of Idaho Pro-Life Law

District Court Judge B. Lynn Winmill ruled that the 14th Amendment's Due Process and Equal Protection clauses allow for the right to an abortion "when a pregnancy threatens the woman's life or health." Winmill said that includes the mental health of the mother. The heart of the state's pro-life law still stands, even as the judge ruled that, while it may be "troubling" that the state can restrict abortion, the overall law does not violate the state constitution. Never Think of Abortion as 'Normal'

A recent story from People magazine listing more than 60 celebrities "who have shared their abortion stories to help women feel less alone." "The propaganda campaign to make the intentional killing of a preborn baby seem normal is impossible to miss," Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America and Students for Life Action, responded in a social media post. "Abortion should never be celebrated. It should be mourned. Let us pray for healing for every woman impacted by abortion, and keep working until abortion is both illegal and unthinkable." Live Action Stands by the Word 'Killing' When Describing Abortion

A powerful voice in the pro-life movement is refusing to back down from calling abortion what it is: killing. Live Action is refusing to back down, despite a cease-and-desist letter from the Amplify Legal group claiming that the organization has defamed women who chose to abort their pregnancies. The letter claimed that the organization published "false and defamatory" stories about 13 clients of Amplify. According to Live Action, each of the individuals written about had previously publicly shared about their abortions. Read more......

Pro-Life Group Backs Darline Graham in Senate Runoff

Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America Candidate Fund announced its endorsement of Darline Graham in South Carolina's U.S. Senate race. A runoff election is scheduled for Tuesday, August 25. "I have gotten to know Darline Graham and I am confident she is 100 percent committed to advocating for unborn children and their mothers in the U.S. Senate. She is already a leader, cut from the same cloth as her brother Sen. Lindsey Graham. One of her first actions was to affirm her support for no fewer than seven pro-life priority bills—from ending federal taxpayer funding of abortion, to stopping deadly abortion drugs and combating forced abortions, to ensuring that expectant moms can find...

New Jersey Law Could Criminalize Prayer Outside Abortion Clinics

New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill signed a bill that criminalizes "interference" with "reproductive" or "gender-affirming" care, a law that opponents say has serious implications for freedom of speech. The law criminalizes inflicting "emotional harm" against those seeking or providing "reproductive health care services." It also bans filming and sharing videos within 100 feet of an abortion clinic. Under the new law, an officer can "order the immediate dispersal of a gathering that substantially impedes access to or departure from an entrance or driveway to a reproductive or gender-affirming health care facility during the business hours of...

Ruling Appealed That Would Let Doctors Override Idaho’s Pro-Life Law

Last week, a federal district judge defied the U.S. Supreme Court and invented a new constitutional right to abortion based on a risk to health or threats of suicide. Attorney General Raúl Labrador has now filed a notice of appeal asking the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to reverse the ruling, and also filed an emergency motion asking the district court to stay its own injunction to allow Idaho’s Defense of Life Act to be enforced while the appeal proceeds. Group Offers to Pay Legal Fees of New Jersey Pro-Lifers

An international pro-life group is offering to foot the bill for activists who wind up in the crosshairs of a law signed by New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill (D) to crack down on protests near abortion facilities. 40 Days For Life raised concerns that vague language in that bill about intimidation and threats could be stretched to target peaceful pro-lifers who want to pray for the unborn outside abortion centers. "Prayer is not a crime. Holding a sign is not intimidation. Offering a woman help is not coercion," the group's CEO Shawn Carney told The Post. "This law is designed to scare people of faith off the sidewalks outside abortion facilities by creating the constant threat...

Marjorie Dannenfelser, head of a major pro-life advocacy group, said President Donald Trump's new nominee for U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner, Dr. Heidi Overton, is "the right person for the job." "I'm very impressed with her credentials and her pro-life heart," Dannenfelser said in an Aug. 26 interview with "EWTN Pro-Life Weekly" anchor Abigail Galván. "She, behind the scenes, was working very hard to make sure that the FDA was moving in the right direction on a new study to base further action on." Read more......
